Taylor Page! (DJ)

Unknown Talent Presents: Taylor Page!!!!
(DJ)

Do The Unknown Lose Hope!?

Do the unknown lose hope? That is the question I have been thinking about since the begging of this blog page and recently after Taylor Page's interview. When I interview Taylor Page, I notice his attitude. He was honest, and kinda had an " I don't care" attitude. It was note because he didn't want to be interview but it is because " My facts are down right the truth". He told me how he had been working in the music industry for quite a while and still hasn't gotten the attention he deserves. Like I have mention early on my blog site. I met Taylor Page from Anna Garcia (Radio Host). They have booth been students at Vandercook College of Music. Taylor Page as a bachelors in music education. So he knows his stuff! But like I mentioned before, he's just kind of fed up with dreaming big in the music industry. He has faced reality that not everyone makes it big in the music industry. Despite how talented or how much knowledge they have with music theory or technology. So I wonder myself after editing this interview, who would make it from my blog page? Did I interviewed the next biggest thing in the music industry? Or am I just interviewing the unknown talent who will stay unknown? I guess only a matter of time and practice will determine that. I just hope none of my inter-viewings lose hope. Well one this is for sure, they are definitely talented and important musicians in my blog page!! Thanks Everyone for the interviews!! MORE TO COME!!!!

The Voice Auditions

2015 Chicago's The Voice Auditions!

The Truth of The Voice and Today's Music Singing Competitions!!

So on my next video, which is being uploaded as we speak, is about the Voice Auditions. Early last week, Chicago hold the Voice auditions here at Navy Pear. So what a perfect situation to meet unknown artist. As I arrived, I was immediately told not to film the artist on stage, but I was allowed to film at the waiting room, when they got done auditioning. Boy! It was an experience. I wanted, from the beginning, to create a fun enjoyable and exiting video about the Voice Auditions. Since after all the show is all about that. But what I notice was a lot of tears and shut down artist. What do I mean by shut down artist. Well I hate to admit it, but not good looking enough. Because after I got done with someones interview, I would ask them to sing. They where fucking awesome!!! So why where they not able to go to the next round? I figured it out on my last interview of the day. The girl's name was Rachel Curtis. She sang great! But from the get go, she was charming also...Great smile, nice blue eyes, and fresh clothing. So was that the missing ingredient for the other singers?? I understand that you have look nice on television (To get views for the TV show) but that should't be the most important featured on the first round! IT NEEDS TO BE THE VOICE OF THE ARTIST! Another thing that got to me, when the Voice is on TV, they are some bad auditions. Do those go on TV just for us at home to laugh about!! The answer to that is yes, once again, it gets The Voice views and something else to talk about to our friends instead of just great vocal talent.
I don't know, I understand now how this TV show works, am I agreeing with it...YEA. But not happy with it. So keep that in mind when you watch my youtube video of The Voice above. Thanks!!

Talk To The Unknown!

Talk To The Unknown

Talk to strangers, to the people you have no idea who they are. Why is this related to my blog site and why is it important? Well believe me or not, That Anna Girl below me is my GIRLFRIEND! Crazy huh, how in the world did I end up with a girl who works at a radio station. Well, It all happen at a conference here in Chicago about two years ago. I was currently living in Indiana and got accepted to attend to the National Hispanic Leadership Conference held at the Sheraton Hotel. I was on my way to my hotel room, when I stumbled upon Anna playing piano. Wow she had skills! I told her how I was moving to Chicago that summer and needed a friend. I WAS NOT BEING A FLIRT. I actually needed someone who could help me get to school, work, and well learn how to take the CTA. She said "Sure!". Then we talked about our majors, and it happen to be she goes to Vandercook College of Music. A music teacher in the making! Because of her attending to that school, I have collaborated with many talented musicians. In fact, an up coming interview for my blog site, I get to meet a former student of her school and interview him. And let's just say he is a DJ performing at THE HOUSE OF BLUES!!! So this dude, that Anna had me meet, is kind of a big deal. All because of my wonderful friend and girlfriend Anna. So network as much as possible, meet new people. You never know who you will meet and who you will end up meeting!

Where am I going?? What is next??

So as we all can tell we are in week 6! WEEK 6!!!! That means we are more than halfway with this blog. So there is only one question on my mind...Am I going to keep going with this?? Although I only had posted two interview videos and working on my 3rd video edit, do I really want to keep going with this?? YES! I have huge line up coming up within the next weeks! I have a interviewed someone who works for a radio station, the voice auditions is this week, I am interviewing another band called Versus The Victor, a DJ who is performing at the House of Blues called Taylor Page, and also an all girl show group! As we can tell there is a variety of talent coming up! But the down side of this, I have to travel a butt load. Not all these talents are in Chicago, some are in the suburbs of Chicago. So I have to pack up my laptop, a tri-pod, my notes and not to mention my camera. It is a lot on my shoulders. Plus with this weather, well it is not helping. So maybe after this quarter, I will keep going with this, but be more peaking with the talent and not just pick anyone who is performing. I don''t want to fall behind in my other classes. But along the way I have learned a lot of great stuff and I hope you guys have seen some improvements in my editing and interviewing. I really would want to take this as far as it can go. Hopefully some band or artist might like my work and I could work with them and tour!!! That would be another dream come true. So as for now, I gotta pack up my stuff and hit the shows for more interviews! Thanks Everyone!!

The Different Artist

Now for the past months I have dealt with all kinds of different talents.
Some are merely even famous, and some had good amount of fans.
What I have claim to notice, when I interview them for this blog page,
was that each of them have their differences and something in common.
First, must musicians started of really young. Let's compare with my friend
Zach Porlier with the lead singer of Spence.
Zach Porlier, if you can remember from the video, started off at a young age.
His father was what got Zach into music. They would listen to music as a family
pass time. As for Daniel, lead singer and guitar player for Spence, he grow up
listening to Smashing Pumpkins and Greed Day also at a very young age. What makes them
difference is pretty interesting. Daniel has played all over this nation is at currently
at tour. Getting to interview him was a lot different from Zach. Here is how. First, Daniel
was tough to get a one in one time with him. Mainly because he would hang out
with his fans as a musician should do to keep their fan base connected.
So, after the show, it literately took me about an hour just to be able to have
one on one time with him. I was patiently waiting, because I knew he didn't mean
no bad intentions, just keep the fans partying! With Zach on the other hand, I was able to
have one-on-one time with him immediately after the show. With Zach, there was also a handful
of fans, but not as much as Daniel from Spence. Maybe because Zach was a local musician
and at this moment you can catch Zach the next day as for Daniel, he would be gone the next
morning. When I interview Zach, I would admit, it felt intimidated. Probably because that
interview was one of his first interviews. As for Daniel, he was more open and more
personal and felt comfortable during the interview. After all Daniel has gotten plenty of
interviews so he is used to it. One last thing I have notice is that there answers to "What is next"
is different from Zach(a local talent) than Spence(a touring band). With Spence, his answers was more
detail. Such as "We have a show here and there and our next tour starts this and that and during this
time our album drops". As to Zach, he was more "Hopefully being able to do something with music. Hopefully
not working with whole foods, even though I can't complain.
Alaska will drop in album soon and maybe get a tour going". As you can see Daniel's band, Spence,
was more sure on what is next than Zach.
Although I have learned a lot from those two musicians, I can completely agree that both
are one of a kind musicians and super talented!

Tomorrow's Alliance!

So when I first moved to Chicago, about two years ago, I met this wonderful guy name Arthur Liceaga. Arthur (along side with his older brother Jimi Liceaga) are the founders of a  band named Tomorrows Alliance. Along side with David Barnes (on the bad ass Bass), and percussionist Emanuel Moreno. Tomorrow's Alliance are now located at Westmont Illinois and are currently hosting many shows and small venues at places like La Grange, Brookfield, Summit and many more. Tomorrow's Alliance has over 150 songs written and performed, did I mention it's all their original music?. You can locate their  music on google play, if you like it feel free to share and purchase a few of their tracks  and show them some love. The band has done many festivals (such as the USL Festival (2014) and had placed 2nd in Illinois Battle of the Bands in 2013! I had gotten the privilege enough to help film, record live sound, and take photos at many of their events. Just last December, I had there honor to film their first music video! The music video was shot at millennium park, the band playing at Westmont park as a story also develops, through out the video, Arthur and his girlfriend (actor Anna Garcia) go down memory lane as they both struggle with the memories of what once all builds up to the ending, but I don't want to ruin the video, instead why don't you go check it out and find out for yourself what happens in the end to the heart crushed lovers.. You can locate the music video on youtube or in Tomorrow's Alliance website. The music video is called When It's Cold Outside.

On The video below, we can see Tomorrow'a Alliance performing for the USO over July 4th 2014. I was the one filming it.

WHAT ARE THE QUALITIES WE LOOK FOR IN AN ARTIST/BANDS?!?!

So before we get started into looking at different types of artist/musicians, we(as producers) have to keep in mind, what are some qualities we see in an artist, and band mates?!?!

So I interviewed Oscar Oceguera, An intern at Deaf Dog Recordings, on what qualities does he look in an Artist/Bands.

Alex: What are some qualities you see in an Artist?

Oscar: Well, I look for their fanbase, do a little online social media research, to see how the artist shares a relationship with their fans base. And to see either if the relationship is a strong bond or weak bond. That will determine if I should work with them.

Alex: Is a well established brand important?

Oscar: Yes! A strong band is practically required in today's music industry. It helps us market and promote their music to specific audience.

Alex: What about personality, what kind of a personality should an Artist/Band have?

Oscar: I like personalities that shows who they are , not only as an artist, but also as a person...No drama queens please. Personalities that are easy to work with is huge plus. To be specific, being humble, friendly and outgoing is the type of personalities i like to work with in pop music production.

Alex: What stage present?

Oscar: Well for stage present, I prefer a lot of movement and of course energy! Depending on the artist style, they should interact with the audience in a way that represents their brand. For example, a male smooth R&B artist would bring a female fan to the stage and sing to her... well shirtless. HAHAHAH... It gets them crazy!

Alex: Thank you Oscar for your time!

Oscar: Your welcome!!!

Their you go guys! Some of many questions to this topic of what are the qualities we look for in an artist/bands. Please fill free to leave a comment to what you think are some important qualities! Thanks Guys!
